Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has expressed his emotions after guiding his team to the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Bowyer, who has been at the helm of the League One side since 2018, led Charlton to a 2-1 aggregate victory over Sunderland in the semi-finals.

“I am incredibly proud of the players and the effort they have put in this season,” Bowyer said in a post-match interview.

Charlton will now face either Portsmouth or Oxford United in the final, with a place in the Championship up for grabs.

The Addicks have not played in the second tier of English football since their relegation in 2016, and Bowyer is keen to secure promotion for the club.

“It has been a long and difficult journey for us this season, but we have stuck together as a team and achieved this amazing feat,” Bowyer added.

Charlton’s victory over Sunderland was sealed by two goals from striker Andrew Jones, who put in a man-of-the-match performance.

“I am just so emotional right now,” Jones said after the game. “To score two goals in such an important match and help my team reach Wembley is a dream come true.”

Bowyer praised Jones for his performance and highlighted the importance of the team’s unity in achieving their success.

“Andrew has been fantastic for us all season, and his two goals today were just reward for his hard work,” Bowyer said. “But it is not just about one player, it is about the whole team coming together and fighting for each other.”
